The Startup Magazine What You Can Do to Make Sure Your Employees Feel Safe and Secure at Work

Chances are super high that your employees feel safe when they’re at home; maybe they even feel safe when they’re in other businesses like the local cafe or shops, but what if they don’t feel safe at work? Honestly, if they’re not feeling safe, then you might not be doing something right, and good luck trying to get any talent to hop on board.

Basically, ensuring the safety and security of employees is more important than ever, particularly for small businesses. Seriously, it’s so important to do what you can to create a secure working environment that not only protects valuable assets but also fosters a sense of well-being and productivity among staff. So, with that all said, here are some practical measures small businesses can take to keep their premises secure and give employees peace of mind.

Have Security Cameras and CCTV Inside and Outside the Space

Installing security cameras and CCTV systems is one of the most effective ways to deter crime. Now, it might not 100 fix it, but it’s definitely going to help in some way, shape, or form. So, just by placing cameras both inside and outside your premises, you can monitor activity around the clock. CCTV footage can be invaluable.

Honestly, you just never know when or if there will be a break-in or vandalism, and even in that case alone, providing crucial evidence to authorities. Plus, usually, when it comes to business owners’ insurance, they’ll want proof, too, so having video evidence can really help with that, too. But more importantly, the presence of cameras can significantly reduce the likelihood of trespassers attempting to enter, as they are aware they are being watched.

Hire a Commercial Locksmith

Hands down, commercial locksmiths will be your best bet and vital partner in securing your business. You can count on them to help you make sure that all entry points are equipped with high-quality locks that are difficult to tamper with. But is that all? On top of that, they can provide advice on the latest security technology, such as keyless entry systems or smart locks, which offer greater control over who has access to your business.

As you can see, they do more than just switch locks or make keys (to a degree that’s like the tip of the iceberg, anyways). Actually, it’s best to just regularly look into updating and maintaining locks as this is something that’s super important (and usually overlooked), as worn or outdated locks can be an easy target for intruders (and if insurance companies find this out, then you might not get coverage for your case).

Consider Commercial Metal Shutters at Night

You have two options: bars over the windows or commercial metal shutters. Most businesses choose shutters because they’re more secure and can only be seen at night during lockup.

But these are pretty robust! These shutters can be automated (it’s expensive), making them convenient to use while providing a strong physical barrier against break-ins. The whole point of this is to cover windows and doors at night in the hopes of significantly reducing the risk of vandalism and theft, as these barriers are incredibly difficult to breach!
