What’s the best and worst thing about being self-employed in Italy?
Freelancing or starting your own business is the right option for many people who move to Italy, though some say it’s harder to do here than in other EU countries. We’d like to hear from readers who’ve done it.
Full-time employment contracts are notoriously hard to come by in Italy, and people considering a move here often say they are put off by low pay or a lack of opportunities in their sector.
So for people who can work for themselves, this can become an appealing option here even if they had previously been an employee in their home country.
Self-employment comes with plenty of bureaucratic requirements, including setting up a partita IVA (VAT number), filing taxes, and dealing with a complex and uniquely Italian system of electronic invoicing.
